Intro

So, I recently had a friend ask me someone stole my laptop can you help me get it back? kind of was not sure about getting the laptop especially considering 2 years back had lost my laptop somehow and wasn’t able to get it back.

Fortunately, things have changed since then and, in this video, I will explain 2 most important categories.

Prevention – that is Steps you can use to secure your laptop even when stolen or lost. These steps will make it difficult for thieves to use your laptop and better still increasing your chances of recovering the laptop.

Secondly, I am going to show you how to track your laptop.

And by the way if you do enjoy my videos a sub to the channel would really mean a lot to me. we trying to get to 1000 subscribers over the next 30 days help me achieve this.

 1st step

Is to Secure/ Encrypt our device.

For those running on windows 10 this easy

On the search tab type BitLocker

And select on that and turn bit locker on

What basically this does is to secure your hard drive rendering it difficult for 3rd party to use it

Ok let us say someone stole your laptop and they want to re install windows before selling it then its is impossible instead they will have to buy another hard drive.

Also keeping your passwords and bank credentials and any data in these hard drives safe.

But this does not solve anything they still will be able to sell it eventually. Don’t worry second step got you covered.

Step 2

Secure your BIOS!

  1. For this find the latest bios Update for your laptop you can search online by typing your laptop model and the bios update

Ensure to install this.

If you have a Asus like I do then go to my Asus app and click on software update and select on bios & Firmware and download the latest bios

After updating enter bios Mode and select on security and set your desired password.

The advantage of having a bios password is that it makes it difficult for the average person who just changed your hard drive to install windows on it.

Obviously, there are methods to remove the bios password but at least it will give you some more time.

Remember the key objective is stalling and preventing this person who has stolen the laptop from accessing anything.

3rd

You can use a Microsoft account linked to your phone number this makes it completely almost impossible for the average person to crack thru. Unless of cause you watch and read my articles where I explain steps to getting past a Microsoft account log in. and do not for get to subscribe if you have watched this far.

For this go to settings and select accounts know click on this and select sign in options and use the Microsoft account.

This still weak to bypass. And to secure this you need to set a 2-step verification and connect your phone number.

For this

Log into your Microsoft account on the web a

  1. Go to the Security basics page and sign in with your Microsoft account.
  2. Select More security options.
  3. Under Two-step verification, choose Set up two-step verification to turn it on, or choose to Turn off two-step verification to turn it off.
  4. Follow the instructions.

Note: As part of setting up this account, you’ll be given a QR code to scan with your device; this is one way we ensure you are in physical possession of the device you are installing the Authenticator app to.

All these steps are to give us more time and its preparing for the worse

So, what happens when someone unfortunately grabs your laptop?

Considering world statistics indicate that everyone minute a laptop is stollen!!

Well

We are going to set up our laptop to enable tracking.

For this

In the search Tab type

Find my device.

And make sure this set to ON.

Then go to location and turn this on

Also, remember to rename your pc to make it easier for you to find it using the name.

So that in any circumstance you lose your device you can easily log in to your account using another device go to my devices and

Then find my device and there you go you got it

Conclusion
