Many wake up to this new policy update that goes in effect as from February 8,2021.
So, what has really changed?
In this video I will explain 3 categories and how they affect your data with effect to the new policy.
Disclaimer you might want to uninstall WhatsApp after watching this.
Without further ado let’s get straight into this
First
What personal data is collected by WhatsApp?
Second what data is shared with Facebook.
Third what data is with business account on WhatsApp.
The question is what data is collected by WhatsApp?
Check this out it’s the 2019 privacy policy by WhatsApp
It says
‘’Respect for your privacy is coded into our DNA. Since we started WhatsApp, we’ve aspired to build our services with a set of strong privacy principle in mind.’’
Then here is the new policy for 2021 effective February.
The promising value for privacy is gone.
This made me a little curious!!
So, what exactly has changed?
For stats still conversations are end to end encrypted meaning WhatsApp can’t read you messages
But what does WhatsApp know??
- Your Account Information.
- what phone are you using?
- Battery status
- Time zone
- WhatsApp usage
- pay details.
- operating system
- location information
- cookies
- status updates
The next question
what data is collected when you interact with a WhatsApp business account.
this clearly stated in the new policy it states…
‘’businesses you interact with using our Services may provide us with information about their interactions with you. We require each of these businesses to act in accordance with applicable law when providing any information to us.
When you message a business on WhatsApp, keep in mind that the content you share may be visible to several people in that business. In addition, some businesses might be working with third-party service providers (which may include Facebook) to help manage their communications with their customers. For example, a business may give such third-party service provider access to its communications to send, store, read, manage, or otherwise process them for the business. To understand how a business processes your information, including how it might share your information with third parties or Facebook, you should review that business’ privacy policy or contact the business directly.’’
Finally, what data is shared with Facebook.
Basically, all this information is shared with Facebook.
To give users more personalized adverts
Something big has changed regarding adverts.
Check this
2019 policy states
‘’No third-party banner ads. We still do not allow third-party banner ads on WhatsApp’’
But this has changed in the new policy it states
‘’No Third-Party Banner Ads. We still do not allow third-party banner ads on our Services. We have no intention to introduce them, but if we ever do, we will update this Privacy Policy.’’
Basically, it’s a signal telling you to get ready for ads on WhatsApp or maybe not
This knowsWhatsApp the Facebook company
With all the core values of WhatsApp scrapped I think it’s time to get out and try other privacy oriented apps
Most of you don’t care about the digital data collected by WhatsApp or Facebook
But this really changes the moment you realize that
‘’In the third quarter of 2020, Facebook’s total advertising revenue amounted to 21.22 billion U.S. dollars. Other revenue streams generated 249 million U.S. dollars in revenues. The majority of Facebook’s ad revenue is generated via mobile devices.
Maybe we can just sit and wait for what our government will say or do or we can act and walk away from thistg
There are 2 very optimistic variants to whatsapp that are popular and surport large amount of data transfer
For example telegram and also signal
Telegram is open source therefore very trusted by many
Same to signal
Anyway thanks for watching and reading.
Catch you in the next one.
